We are proud to announce that the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) has awarded our Breastfeeding and Mental Health Online Training course with 57 CERPs.
Breastfeeding is a fundamental part of the psychological and health processes inherent to maternity, and is intimately tied to maternal and infant physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as to the construction of the mother-baby bond. Therefore, we consider breastfeeding to be something we must take into account at the Institute.
Although health care providers are becoming more knowledgeable about the physiological mechanisms of breastfeeding, the truth is that the psychological, neurobiological and social aspects are largely unknown. Reality shows us that many psychological issues of the postpartum manifest as breastfeeding difficulties, and also that breastfeeding difficulties can lead into psychological and emotional distress and alter the mother-infant relationship.
This is often managed by putting an end to breastfeeding, in mothers who did not wish to do so.
Our online course tries to bridge that gap between breastfeeding and mental health, to go deeper into the psychobiology of breastfeeding, the neurobiology of bonding, maternal psychology and the relationship between breastfeeding and mental health, and it is open both to professionals from the breastfeeding field who wish to learn more about the psychological aspects, and to professionals from the fields of psychology and mental health who wish to understand the deep relationship between breastfeeding, psyche and bond, and learn to enlarge their focus in their support to mothers.
